Art Therapy
You do not need to have any prior experience in art making, or identify as being “creative” to experience the benefits of art therapy. Creative expression invites the maker to explore aspects of self - identity, beliefs, values, ideals, hopes, wishes, dreams, relationships etc - through a variety of modalities and materials. Engaging in the process of art making in the moment, rather than being attached to any particular outcome can be incredibly freeing.
In art therapy, art making is a catalyst for meaning-making. Sometimes words are not enough, or fall short of articulating our experiences. Working with images and symbols can bring our inner voice out. The art expressions you create become the source of valuable information, making it possible to have conversations with parts of yourself that may not have felt acknowledged, witnessed or heard.
Adopting a hands-on, playful, and curious approach can assist you to shake off the binds of your problems and see them from a new perspective. Creating visual maps can assist with internal navigation and wayfinding.
